On September 7, 2022, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) of the United Nations Security Council will hold a roundtable discussion on the trafficking and illegal sale of cultural property for terrorist purposes.

The roundtable will bring together experts from the United Nations, civil society, and academia in the field of cultural heritage protection and cultural property transportation surveys, to discuss in detail the nature, scope, and trends of the terrorism dimension that currently defines this phenomenon.

Based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 2617 (2021) as a guideline, to promote understanding and more substantive participation in this issue, the resolution encourages the Counter Terrorism Executive Directorate to raise awareness of the importance of cooperation among member states in dealing with different aspects of illegal cultural property transactions.

The representative of the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations will deliver an opening speech for this event together with the Counter Terrorism Executive Directorate.
